Recovery Monday

Rainy day on a small street in Tokyo

What a wet start to the week! Monday morning has been nothing but rain, which was forecast for the previous couple days, so I had planned to take the day off for recovery. After all, I rode five days straight from Wednesday to Sunday, and my body deserves a break!

It is rainy season in Japan now, so the weather is highly unpredictable. One moment it could be absolutely beautiful, and then in a matter of mere minutes the clouds may engulf the sky, and start raining havoc on the entire city. This is really no fun in the middle of a fifty kilometer ride, but is something to be cognizant of during this time of the year. That transition from Spring to Summer is usually a wild ride.

Ate a nice bowl of warm oatmeal, and another with kiwi, yogurt, and granola with honey to top it off. Of course both of these bowls were accompanied with a nice cup of hot cappuccino. Great way to start this fine, wet, Monday morning!

Terribly Tired Tuesday

Today I was unable to wake up and get out for a ride, feeling much more tired than normal at 4am. I ended up rolling over and drifting back into dreamsville for another ninety-ish minutes of sleep even though I do not feel terribly tired.

Sexy Top Tube Bag Swap-Out

Today was never going to be a cycling day after eating a ton of very tasty celebratory food and drinking a substantial amount of wine last night. I never expected I would be in a condition to ride, so I hit the sheets last night with the understanding I would not be waking up at 4am to head out for any amount of kilometers, despite my body excited to get on the tarmac for a workout. Instead, I opted for a couple extra hours of recovery sleep, and decided to use some of the cooler morning hours for a bit of limited bike maintenance and to swap out the older top tube bag for a newer, sexier, customized one.

Stormy Somber Saturday: Thoughts on Mental & Physical Health

It has now been raining non-stop for three consecutive days in Tokyo. When my alarm fired this morning, awaking me from a deep and comfortable slumber, the only other sound penetrating the walls of my bedroom was Mother Nature's wet warriors angrily pounding against my home. This is the first time this year rainy season has prevented me from taking Red Chameleon out for a stroll for this many days in a row.
